Youth and the Red Cross have been partners since the founding of the Junior Red Cross in 1917. Today, the involvement of young people with the Red Cross is more important than ever. Our goal is to provide young people with meaningful opportunities for education, training and volunteer/community service so that they remain a part of the Red Cross family throughout their lives. Young people up to age 24 make up 35 percent of all Red Cross volunteers.
It's easy to get involved. Please see our list of projects and youth courses, and then contact us at (973) 379-4198 for complete details and registration.

Disaster Training for Youth
Youth have the opportunity to participate in our Disaster Program at the Millburn - Short Hills Chapter. Free training is offered, and we encourage youth to take Introduction to Disaster, Mass Care and Shelter Operations. After training is complete, volunteers help set up shelters, assist the shelter manager, staff the shelter registration desk, count meals served for the daily report and assist elderly shelter residents, as needed. In addition, volunteers prepare and serve food, help with clean up, stock and monitor the canteen, and hand out bulk distribution items.
Red Cross training is the same all over the country. Therefore, when you go to college, you can still use your skills!!
Disaster courses are offered at the Millburn- Short Hills Chapter. Some may be taken online. You must take Introduction to Disaster first , followed by Mass CareShelter Operations. and then
